Peace be with you, George Tiller (Aug. 8, 1941-May 31, 2009)

I recall the "summer of mercy." It was 1991 in Wichita, Kan., declared by Operation Rescue -- one of those vindictive, malevolent, hateful, pro-life freak groups. They'd lie down in front of cars trying to get into a local clinic. They'd chain themselves together and refuse to let clinic patrons or staff pass. They'd sing hymns and chant and probably speak in tongues and weep and picket with signs showing graphic, bloody images.

After the first few days, I couldn't stomach any more of it. I joined the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and the National Organization for Women (NOW) and proudly wore my pro-choice T-shirt and shot the dirty looks right back and those who gave me the evil eye around town and campus.

The clinic most targeted was run by Dr. George Tiller, a man the sickeningly self-righteous "Christian" folk threatened to take down...some said, by whatever means necessary.

This morning, as Dr. Tiller was walking into his own church for worship, someone gunned him down.

He's dead.

I can only imagine how all those "Christians" are rejoicing. Rejoicing at someone's murder. They called him a murderer, even though he was carrying out legal medical procedures. Now whoever did it is a murderer, running free, claiming it was done in the name of God and Jesus and the Holy Ghost.

Ghost? I hope Dr. Tiller haunts them. I hope the blood now on the hands of the fundamentalists sears like acid in their souls. I hope the authorities catch the scum and apply swift justice.

"One method of destroying a concept is by diluting its meaning. Observe that by ascribing rights to the unborn, i.e., the nonliving, the anti-abortionists obliterate the rights of the living."
-- Ayn Rand

"No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a trap wants to gnaw off its own leg."

-- Frederica Mathewes-Green

"I have met thousands and thousands of pro-choice men and women. I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion."
-- Hillary Clinton

This is taken from my friend's Facebook - he lived here for a while and now it back home in London:

"For everyone back home who suddenly gives a f*** about abortion again, take a second to think about this. 16,000 children starve to death every day. 'Yeah but they're not white americans so they don't count!'"

All those self-righteous "Christians" out there don't care about the kind of horrors that go on around the world. But someone whose life is in danger gets a late-term abortion and all of a sudden they are a walking demon. What the hell is wrong with people? Some people can't even acknowledge facts. They quote back the Bible as if its fact when it is - technically - a work of fiction. GOD people make me mad.

In memoriam...

I remember the first time I heard the name "Les Anderson." A bunch of Wichita State University communication majors were sitting around on campus, talking about classes they planned to take. Several people warned me: watch out for Les Anderson. He was tough. He had a murderous grading scale. It was nearly impossible to get an A. They weren't kidding. But he wasn't tough just to be a tyrant. From his teaching sprang a fleet of incredible, successful journalists, writers, editors, broadcasters, public relations experts, advertisers, non-profit professionals...I could go on and on. Most importantly, he created a legion of people who wanted to make a difference in the world. The greatest gift Les gave to them all? He believed in them, cared about them for their own personal stories as well as the stories they told for class assignments or in the pages of his hometown newspaper. Les was my teacher. My boss. My mentor. My conscience. My champion. My friend. When I started c...

Is it OK to own a Canadian?

In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, written by a U.S. resident, and posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative: Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination ... End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexic...
