Things to be Thankful for, Day 1

I got on this a couple days late. Thought I might write something each day for all of November, focusing on being thankful, what with the holiday and all...

Better late than never.

What I'm thankful for: mental health pharmaceuticals.

It sounds like I'm going for the cheap laugh. But I'm completely serious. I can't function in my life without my cocktail of lithium, sertraline, and the newest drug to join the group, ativan -- a lovely little chill pill, designed to curb anxiety or at least take the edge off.

I'm not sure how I survived without my meds. I'm glad now I don't have to.

In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. I remember the first time I heard the name "Les Anderson." A bunch of Wichita State University communication majors were sitting around on campus, talking about classes they planned to take. Several people warned me: watch out for Les Anderson. He was tough. He had a murderous grading scale. It was nearly impossible to get an A. They weren't kidding. But he wasn't tough just to be a tyrant. From his teaching sprang a fleet of incredible, successful journalists, writers, editors, broadcasters, public relations experts, advertisers, non-profit professionals...I could go on and on.
