My covenant group. It's a group of about 10 people from my church -- Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City -- who get together once a month to chat about a predetermined topic. I've called it bible study without the bible, but some people take offense to that. I mean no offense. It's just difficult to describe what we do and how we grow as individuals when we share.
One of the key elements of our group dynamic is that it's run as a sort of "what happens here, stays here." We don't share what we talk about with anyone outside our group. That makes it a safe place to open up and reveal our deepest thoughts and feelings.
It's my favorite part of being a member of my church. Someday, if we would ever get a new minister, I might actually enjoy Sunday Services again. Maybe tomorrow I'll be thankful for the search committee.
